Why box truck and hotshot are 8%

Box truck and hotshot loads pay less per load than a full tractor-trailer load. To keep you moving, your dispatcher books more of them each week, which means more calls, more broker setup packets and more paperwork for the same weekly revenue. The extra 2% covers that work.

What you'd actually pay

Our fee is a percentage of your weekly gross: everything brokers pay on the loads we book that week, including linehaul, fuel surcharge, detention, layover and TONU. Lumper fees and other money you're only reimbursed for don't count. Two examples:

Dry van loadBox truck load
Linehaul$3,000$1,200
Fuel surcharge$450$150
Detention we recovered$150$0
Broker pays you$3,600$1,350
Our fee6% of $3,600 = $2168% of $1,350 = $108

Example numbers only, to show how the fee works. They're not a quote or a promise of what any load will pay. Here's how to read the linehaul and fuel lines on a rate con.

Want to compare fee models on your own load? The dispatch fee calculator, one of our free trucking tools, puts a percentage of the gross, a percentage of linehaul only and a flat weekly fee side by side.

Two things work in your favor. Lumper fees and other money you're only reimbursed for aren't part of your gross, so there's no fee on them. And if a broker never pays you for a load, you owe us nothing for that load. Here's how we collect detention and TONU for you.

How you pay us, and how you get paid

  1. You deliver the load. We help send the paperwork to the broker, or to your factor.
  2. The broker pays you directly, or pays your factoring company if you use one. That money never passes through our account.
  3. Every Monday we send one invoice listing last week's loads and our fee.
  4. You pay within 3 business days by ACH, Zelle or a secure payment link, and only after you've been paid.

Spot a mistake on an invoice? Tell us within 7 days and we'll fix it. There's no late fee, but fees more than 15 days late may pause dispatching until they're paid.

Keeping the money separate protects you. You always see exactly what the broker paid, and nobody sits between you and your load payments. If you want cash faster than broker terms, we can connect you with factoring through our partner companies, or you can keep using your own factor.

What the fee includes

  • Load sourcing on load boards and through broker relationships
  • Rate negotiation on every load
  • Route planning around your hours and home time
  • Broker vetting before every booking
  • Paperwork and invoicing, with invoices sent in your name
  • Broker communication and check calls
  • Recovering detention, layover and TONU pay from the broker

What the fee doesn't include

Your own operating costs stay yours:

  • Fuel and tolls
  • Insurance
  • Maintenance and repairs
  • Permits and registrations
  • Factoring fees, if you use a factor
  • Any other third-party costs

We don't mark anything up. Some carriers ask for extra help, like filing for authority or getting insurance quotes. That's never part of the dispatch fee. We quote it separately, and you only pay if you agree to it first. Know your own numbers before you compare: here's how to calculate your cost per mile.

How our fee compares

Most dispatchers charge a percentage too, but they charge it on different amounts, and some add setup or monthly fees on top. Ours is a flat percentage of your weekly gross, with no setup or monthly fees and nothing owed on a load the broker never pays. Here's how dispatch fees compare across the industry, including the hidden fees to watch for.

The average truck cost $2.336 per mile to run in 2025, according to the American Transportation Research Institute. A dispatcher pays for itself when it cuts empty miles, lifts your rates or frees up hours you'd rather spend driving. We run the full math in self-dispatch vs hiring a dispatcher.

FAQ

Pricing questions

What is your dispatch fee?

A flat 6% of your weekly gross for dry van, reefer, flatbed and power only, and 8% for box truck and hotshot. There are no upfront, monthly or setup dispatch fees.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. No dispatch fee on any load picked up during your first 3 days of dispatch with us. No card and no commitment. After that, it's the flat 6% or 8% of your weekly gross.

Is the fee a percentage or a flat rate?

A flat percentage of your weekly gross: 6% or 8%, depending on your equipment.

What is included in the fee?
  • Load sourcing
  • Rate negotiation
  • Route planning
  • Broker vetting before every booking
  • Paperwork and invoicing, with invoices sent in your name
  • Broker communication and check calls
  • Recovering detention, layover and TONU pay from the broker
Are there any hidden fees?

No. Our flat percentage of your weekly gross is the only fee. No signup fees, no monthly minimums.

Is hiring a dispatcher cheaper than self dispatching?

It depends on how you value your time. Self dispatching has no direct fee but costs hours every week on calls and paperwork. For many owner-operators the fee is covered by better rates, fewer empty miles and recovered detention. Our self-dispatch guide shows how to run your own numbers.

Does the fee include fuel surcharge, detention or TONU pay?

Yes. Our fee is a flat percentage of your weekly gross, which includes fuel surcharge, detention, layover and TONU. Lumper fees and other money you're only reimbursed for don't count, and if a broker never pays you for a load, you owe us nothing for it.

Does the fee change based on load size or distance?

No. The percentage stays the same regardless of load size or mileage, so there's no incentive for us to push shorter or longer hauls over what's best for you.

Do you charge anything if I don't haul any loads in a given week?

No. Our fee is a percentage of what you gross that week, so a week with no loads costs nothing.

How do I pay your fee?

Every Monday we send one invoice listing last week's loads and our fee. You pay within 3 business days by ACH, Zelle or a secure payment link, only after you've been paid. The broker pays you, or your factoring company, directly.

Get started, no upfront cost

You only pay our fee on loads we book, after you've been paid.
